How to Read Your Meter

Your Meter

This is an example of a meter that you may see outside your home. Not all meters look exactly like this, but in general you would be looking for the same numbers on them. The meter reading (shown as 00000 in the picture above) is the number that you would submit to us to record your usage. The cooperative number (shown as 10926 in the picture above) is unique to your meter and helps us to verify the reading submitted to us.

The Cooperative's rates are based on the fact that each member shall read his own meter. You read the meter as you would the odometer on a car. It is recommended that you read your meter as soon as you receive a bill so that your usage will be based on a 30-day period.

How to get the kilowatt-hours from your meter reading

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the measurement of electricity. Your bill is determined by the amount of kilowatt-hours that you use. First, get the difference in usage on the meter. Take the previous reading that was submitted to us and subtract it from the present reading.

Present Reading 15469    The number on the meter currently
Previous Reading 14469    The number on the meter last month
Difference 1000    The difference between the two readings

In this case we get 1000 kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Now you are ready to enter your meter reading. To do so, you can log on to the E-Bill system. Through the E-Bill system, you may do any or all of the following:
