Community Electric Cooperative is "owned by those we serve." Our electricity is purchased from Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, an electric generation and  transmission cooperative. The power is delivered from 10 substations over 1,590 miles of distribution line owned by Community Electric.


Community Electric Cooperative was incorporated in 1938 and provides electric distribution service to the rural parts of the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, along with portions of Sussex and Surry Counties. The following statistics apply to the Cooperative's distribution operations within its certificated service territory (as of December 31, 2011):
