Rick Cohen has been promoted to Meter and Apparatus, Chief, at Community Electric. He succeeds recent retiree Perry Wellman in that role. The two had paired together for the past dozen years or so to wire generators, connect and disconnect meters, install transfer switches and perform a host of related tasks that strengthen the cooperative’s electrical systems and support linemen working in the field.
“Rick brings into his new position many years of electrical distribution experience, including his years spent as a lineman and, most recently, meter and apparatus technician,” CEC President and CEO Steven A. Harmon said. “We are confident that Rick’s knowledge and expertise in serving our members, along with his years of steadfast loyalty and dedication, will serve our Cooperative well in advancing the Meter and Apparatus Department. We are incredibly pleased that Rick has accepted this new challenge.”
A native of the Tidewater area and longtime Windsor resident, Cohen joined CEC in 1991. He worked in a variety of capacities before earning journeyman lineman status and, subsequently, meter and apparatus technician status. The last two positions both require completion of a multiyear training and certification program administered by the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives.
Cohen said he looks forward to helping CEC meet the rising demands for its services.
“This is a growing area. The bigger metropolitan places around us are more landlocked, and now the only place left for growth is in our territory,” he said. “I appreciate the confidence Community Electric is placing in me in this new position, and I will try my best to be that person.”
