At Community Electric, we’re investing in tomorrow’s workforce. From hosting career days at local schools and offering internship opportunities, to providing job training and scholarships for high school students, we’re committed to helping young people find their spark. We also host hands-on experiences like Day in the Life of a Lineman, where students can see the skill, dedication, and teamwork it takes to keep power flowing. These efforts are designed to inspire the next generation of engineers, lineworkers, and community leaders.
Powering Community Connections
Being a cooperative means putting people first. That’s why we invest in our hometown communities through charitable contributions, sponsorships, and volunteer efforts.
Here are just a few ways Community Electric has made a difference:
- Youth Scholarship Program – awarding $1,000 scholarships to students and $500 donations to local nonprofits chosen by those students.
- Local Nonprofit Support – contributing to food banks, schools, fire departments, and other organizations that meet critical needs.
- Partnerships with Neighboring Co-ops – such as our Ready Bag Packing Parties with Prince George Electric Cooperative, where we supported the Roc Solid Foundation by preparing backpacks for children facing pediatric cancer.
For us, these efforts aren’t just donations — they’re investments in the well-being and future of the communities we serve.
One of the most unique things about being part of the cooperative network is that we don’t just serve our members — we help others, too. When devastating storms hit, cooperatives across the country send crews to support one another through mutual aid.
Since 2019, Community Electric has sent crews out 23 times to help restore power in other areas hit by hurricanes, tornadoes, and other extreme weather. Just last year, our lineworkers were on the frontlines in western Virginia and North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, working long days to rewire and replace broken utility poles so families could return to normal. This spirit of cooperation is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles, and it’s something we take great pride in.
As our CEO Steven Harmon says, “Electric cooperatives fill a huge void in communities across the nation… I’ll admit to taking special pride in the hard work and long days that Community Electric’s linemen put in to assist other cooperatives’ members in times of need.”
