It’s said that “all good things come in threes.” That’s certainly the case in October, when we have fall foliage, Halloween AND credits applied to the electric bills of Community Electric Cooperative member-owners who successfully participate in the Smart Thermostat Program.
A smart thermostat is a Wi-Fi enabled device that can automatically adjust heating and cooling temperature settings in your home for optimal performance. By successfully taking part in the Smart Thermostat Program for a year, members receive a one-time $25 bill credit. The program helps the cooperative manage higher energy demand by allowing specific, short-term adjustments to a participant’s heating and cooling system via the Wi-Fi thermostat. The thermostat automatically changes back to the member’s regular settings when the peak passes.
Participants retain ultimate control over the thermostat setting, but their willingness to let CEC manage short-term usage in peak demand periods reduces the financial impact of energy spikes on their household – especially if they’ve successfully taken part in the program for a full year.
“It’s great that member-owners in the Smart Thermostat Program are able at this time of the year to receive a bill credit and benefit from the wisdom of their energy management,” CEC Operations Manager Glen Presson says. “I’d encourage any member not already in the program to enroll. Especially since electricity prices are continuing to climb, measures that reduce peak demand help the co-op overall and the members who are conserving energy.”
CEC member-owners can purchase smart thermostats – and other energy-saving products – via the Community Electric Marketplace. Marketplace is an online an online platform that allows members to purchase energy-efficient products with instant, automated discounts. Marketplace features the convenience of products mailed to members’ homes at lower prices than retail. Some smart thermostats cost as little as $29.99.
