From Power Lines to Pool Tables: Perry Wellman’s Retirement Adventure

Wellman retired from Community Electric in early April, having spent more than 40 years serving member-owners at rural electric cooperatives in Virginia and New York. He joined CEC in 1989 as a journeyman lineman. For the vast majority of his nearly 35 years here, he worked as a meter and apparatus technician, achieving the position of chief technician around the year 2000.

Bringing Curiosity and Passion to Life: Youth Leadership Conference Includes Three Students from CEC’s Service Area

Nearly fifty students attended the conference held at a lodge in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The Virginia Institute on Cooperative Education (VICE) conference, held annually, educates high school juniors and seniors about cooperatives and the co-op form of business through interactive instruction activities. Students gain teamwork, leadership and communication skills, with top performers having the opportunity to receive up to $2,000 in educational scholarships.

Sparks of Inspiration: Tidewater Students Engage in Hands-On Lineman Training

Twenty students from five Tidewater high schools received hands-on training and insights on the role of a power sector line worker earlier this week in an instructional session hosted by Community Electric Cooperative in Windsor. This was a record-high turnout for the annual “Day in the Life of a Lineman” event that CEC conducts to raise awareness about the services provided by the cooperative and its all-important line crew.

Community Electric Cooperative Prepares for Impacts of Tropical Storm Ophelia

Line technicians are prepping trucks with all necessary supplies and materials for any outages that may occur as a result of the storm. System operators are monitoring the cooperative's power system and weather, and all other employees are on high alert, ready to respond to member needs, including the cooperative’s member service contact center. CEC has coordinated with co-ops in surrounding areas and states for potential assistance.
